Submitted by Kimmie R, rising high school senior. Campanile arranged my family's visit to California College of the Arts in San Francisco (they have another campus in Oakland as well), and we had a great day! I was mainly interested in learning about the five-year architecture program. This college offers a multitude of programs such as arts, fine arts, architecture, film design, fashion design, interior design, painting/ drawing, writing and literature, graphic design, and more. I was very impressed with the facilities that the college had, including the Hybrid Lab, a unique space where students make technology that is built around the principles of being open, fast, and inspiring. This Hybrid Lab is the only one that exists in the world, and helps prepare students for working in companies such as Pixar, Intel, Dreamworks, and more, all of which are close partners with CCA, and offer internships and jobs to motivated students. In addition to the courses, CCA is located near The Mission, which is only a fifteen minute bike ride away. After the college tour, we had a private meeting with Shiraz Chavan, the Assistant Director of International Admissions, and she answered all the questions we had about housing and the new apartment building they are opening this summer. Our day ended with a great lunch at a hot dog stand right by the campus. All in all, California College of the Arts is the whole package and I’m grateful to have had such a wonderful experience visiting the campus and look forward to visiting more campuses in Northern Califiornia.
